Remembering the Jena 6
Reed (my lips) Walters
By the web prospector
My name is Reed Walters and Aa’m here to say,
y’all forget them nooses, our white boys must play.
Y’all forget the lynchings and beatin’s and rapes.
And lives that were broken, on southern landscapes
It’s in-a-pro-priate behavior you see
For you all to protest up under that tree.
Don’t ch’all forget the words that I spoke,
Now y’all gettin’ too uppity, over a joke.
I don’t want to hear of these nooses you see
And furthermore folks, let’s get rid of this tree
No more talk about nooses, not ever again
If you do do, Ill just finish your life with my pen.
Now you three young hoodlums, that took that mans gun
You’re gonna be punished for spoilin’ his fun
You can’t jus take someones own propty ya see
You must learn your lesson, about that, from me.
A black boy was beat at a party you say?
And just what was he doin’, over that way?
Well never you mind, weren’t no real harm done
I’m sure that the youngsters wuz jus havin’ fun.
Looky here, oh my God, look what you done did.
You done brutally assaulted this poor young white kid
More like murdered or tried to it seems like to me.
(If we still had the nooses, if we still had the tree)
Well we do have the court and I’ve got this here pen
Y’all boys ain’t gon never see daylight again

Charter school in tough neighborhood gets all its seniors into college
Urban Prep Charter School
It's the first graduating class at Urban Prep since it opened its doors in 2006.
Urban Prep Charter School is the country's first all-boys public charter high school. Located in Englewood, Illinois, the school is graduating its first class of seniors. Every one of them has been accepted into a four-year college or university---four years ago, many of them were not reading at grade level. Mayor Daley and other dignitaries joined them Friday to celebrate the milestone.
When we add this to the example of Children's Defense Fund and The Harlem Children's Zone we see that the will to educate, applied by people who care, can make all the difference.
Now, if we start to insist more emphatically that money be diverted from incarcerating our young people to educating them, maybe we can see this happen on a much larger scale.

The Black Is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations
The Black Is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace and Reparations this past weekend November 7 and 8 held a rally in Washington DC.

Black Is Back and we demand Social Justice, Peace and Reparations
Their platform is as follows
The election of Barack Obama as U.S. president has not ended the suffering of our people or U.S. injustices around the world. While the US Congress has given Wall Street and the auto industry trillions of dollars, the same Congress refuses to repair the legacy of slavery for descendants of enslaved Africans or prevent ethnic cleansing of black people in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. Massive home losses due to criminal banking practices attests to the ongoing theft of billions of dollars of black community wealth. Every day, our people suffer police brutality and murder, unjust imprisonment , depression-level unemployment, slave labor in prison and disenfranchisement. People who dedicated their lives to our freedom during the 1960s' still rot in U.S. prisons. U.S. wars have been expanded beyond the African community in the US to Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan and now threaten Venezuela.
